How to cook spaghetti bolognese

Here's a simple, classic way to cook Spaghetti Bolognese:

🍝 Ingredients (serves 4):

  • 400g (14 oz) spaghetti

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 carrot, finely chopped

  • 1 celery stick, finely chopped (optional)

  • 500g (1 lb) ground beef

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes

  • 1 tsp dried oregano or Italian herbs

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • Grated Parmesan (optional)

🍳 Instructions:

  1. Cook the pasta

    • Bring a pot of salted water to a boil, add spaghetti, and cook until al dente (usually 8–10 minutes). Drain and set aside.

  2. Make the sauce

    • Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.

    • Add onion, garlic, carrot (and celery if using). Sauté for 5–7 minutes until softened.

    • Add ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned (about 5–8 minutes).

    • Stir in tomato paste, then add crushed tomatoes and herbs.

    • Season with salt and pepper.

    • Simmer on low for 15–30 minutes, stirring occasionally (longer = richer flavor).

  3. Combine and serve

    • Toss spaghetti with the sauce or serve the sauce on top.

    • Garnish with Parmesan and fresh herbs if desired.
